A reflection of Dust.
In a past project dedicated to David Campany’s a Handful of Dust, we were pushed to create a response to dust itself. Whether it would be through its physical nature or symbolism, Man Ray’s piece “Dust Breeding” became the subject of response.
I decided to collect dust in its natural habitat of lofting around the house. We do not see dust move as it is something that breeds unnoticingly. I wanted to capture dust frozen in time, matter that can be controlled through our will yet symbolizing a moment in time we had no control over. As dust becomes encapsulated in resin, it finally becomes noticeable to the eye (2019).
